The Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) will be attending the Third Commonwealth Red Cross/Red Crescent International Humanitarian Law Conference and First Asia Pacific Legal Network (APLN) Meeting in Kuala Lumpur from today till Thursday, the society stated in a press release yesterday.
Pg Hjh Zabaidah binti Pg Hj Kamaluddin, the National Director of International Relations and Legal Adviser for the BDRCS was to leave yesterday for Kuala Lumpur to join the delegates of other international Red Cross/Red Crescent societies participating in the conference.
The conference is jointly organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) Kuala Lumpur delegation, together with the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Red Cross.
This year's conference will focus on several key issues, namely "Laws in disaster: International Disaster Response Laws, Rules and Principles"; "Children associated with armed conflict: Guidelines for the implementation of law protecting children in armed conflict"; "The protection of the wounded and sick in armed conflict and other situations of violence"; "The role of Red Cross/Red Crescent societies as auxillaries to government authorities in the humanitarian field"; and "The Red Cross/Red Crescent societies: their recognition and legal bases".
