Brunei Red Crescent Society attends KL C'wealth conference

THE Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society will be leaving for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the Third Commonwealth Red Cross/Red Crescent International Humanitarian Law Conference and First Asia Pacific Legal Network (APLN) meeting which commences June 6.

The National Director of International Relations and Legal Adviser for the society Pg Hjh Zabaidah Pg Hj Kamaluddin left yesterday to join other international red cross/red crescent societies who are also participating at the conference.

According to a press statement by the society, this year's conference will focus on several key topics which include "Laws in disaster: International Disaster Response Laws, Rules and Principles" as well as "Children associated to armed conflict:Guidelines for the Implementation of law protecting children in armed conflict".

Other issues include protection of the wounded and sick in armed conflict and other situations of violence and, role of Red Crescent Societies as auxiliaries to government authorities in the humanitarian field.

The event will end on June 9.
